The Nutrition is Right Gamification

The theory used for this game is the Technology Acceptance Model. I capitalized on the perceived usefulness along with the perceived ease of use to gain motivation. This entire course is designed to instruct the learners so that they can more confidently and successfully parent the children living in their homes. The uniqueness of each child can make this difficult, however; understanding the basics of nutrition is an important step to setting the children up for success. The usefulness of the game correlates with the family’s ability to understand sugar and chemical additives in the foods and beverages they are providing for their children. The ease of use is aided by the familiarity with the game show The Price is Right. Additionally, the software Storyline also creates an intuitive format that is easy for any person to follow. Each question is set up with basic instructions and familiar foods and beverages. The game is not focused on right or wrong answers but on the learning that takes place through participation. Just as in The Price is Right the learner will be relying on luck and reasonable guesses for most of their answers. This also helps lower the cognitive load since the learner does not need to be anxious about remembering the correct answers to get a score that is satisfactory. The main motivation in this game is the value it adds to their child’s life. If the family can properly identify sugar and negative additives, they will be able to help their child to be successful in school, sleep better, and have better-regulated emotions. The rest of the course continues on how to set routines that assist in those areas, however; if the nutrition aspect is not addressed, the families will not be as successful as they have the potential to be. The value that the learner finds in this game then results in course engagement with the end result of realized expectations being a better understanding of how to properly provide nutrition for their child (Barber, 2021).
